So this past week has been busy for me. I've been picking up extra hours at my job to help make ends meet...but where I have to go is an hour drive to and from the place with around three to three and a half hours of work time. Fortunately I get paid for my drive time. The down side...I had to work this evening to train a guy on how to clean the sites too because no one else was available to do so, and originally I wasn't supposed to.
But it is what it is and its done now.
On to the better business!

So Saturday was my 36th birthday. Yeah I'm getting old.
Now I got 2 things for my birthday.
- Nvidia GeForce GT 730 video card
- AMD FX 4300 processor
Now both of these are great things for upgrading my computer. They may not be top of the line items but they will certainly do. However the snag in the plan I've run into is that my computer's motherboard does not support AM 3+ processors.
On the other hand my brother-in-law is a great tech expert (as he does it for a living) and will be helping me out in finding a cheap-but-good new motherboard that supports AM 3+ processors.
But will this allow me to play Dying Light?
Well if your like me and are wondering this same thing, "can my system run it?" Then be amazed as I found a web site that will figure that out for you: Can You Run It?
Well based upon this web site...no. Now not having a good processor is a given, but you would think that with the video card it would be possible. Now whats odd is the fact that it recommends at a minimum you use a GeForce GTX 560, and my card is more powerful than this and is noted for meeting the needed Pixel Shader, Vertex Shader, and Dedicated Video Ram.
Also I've checked out youtube and some folks are playing the game just fine using the same card as me.
THUS - I need a new motherboard now. I will likely be buying via Newegg or Amazon...which ever offers the better prices.

So my game group on a previous Saturday, where I could not join them, played D&D 5th Edition. Now I asked them what they thought about it and posted their comments. But now was my turn to play and give the system a try.
First off, I've had bad experiences playing D&D at 1st level...often my character doesn't survive past the first or second encounter. Funny thing, I was the MVP for this game session.
In this game I was playing a Monk, and since everyone else was now at level 2 after one game session, I too was allowed to join at level 2, thus upping my odds of survival. Now that is to say that my character didn't get hurt, he did, but I was rolling quite well and dealing out a fair chunk of damage each time; though most enemies had some resistance to damage as they were either undead or some sort of aberration.
My character was made with the point buy method, standard 27pts. DEX & WIS were the focus of his points with STR and CON being second, and INT and CHA last.
(STR 12, DEX 16, CON 14, INT 10, WIS 14, CHA 8)
Now as the game progressed the group came across some magic mirrors that required you to make a save if you got up close and looked into them. If you succeeded you got a permanent or semi permanent power. But if you failed then you suffered either no effect or some other much worse effect like a permanent stat drain.
One player, my friend Jake, was playing a Wizard and a Barbarian. His Barbarian decided to investigate the mirrors and checked out all 5 of them. He got 2 buffs, and 3 debuffs including a permanent drain on his STR.
My Monk, being a curious sort and one to enjoy the modern thing a little too much, decided that he would try 2 mirrors that gave the Barbarian a hard time. I walked away with 2 buffs.
One buff is a dual use thing - he can emit a light from his eyes doing 1d8 damage up to 30ft away only once, or he can gain advantage when making Persuasion or Intimidation rolls...neither of which my Monk is good at. Guess what I'm not using.
The second buff granted him a +1 to all of his Mental Stats (INT, WIS, CHA) permanently.
And by the end of the session we were all level 3, and had looted the tower to find well over possibly 200,000 gold worth of loot. Its a lot to carry back, sure, but it would certainly go along ways to better outfitting the party for what lays ahead. Especially since the group decided to just keep running 5th Edition instead of moving on to a different game system.
Now on the plus side the game runs quickly and fairly smoothly. You can pretty much have everything about your character on just one page, though as you get higher in level that won't be the case. Healing wasn't a big issue this time around for us, but the game has just gotten started so we'll see where it goes.
Where there any cons?
So for none really. Now like I said, this was just my first game session playing 5th Edition, but we will see what the future holds.
