What its all about...

As a fan of table top Role Playing Games, and Video Games, not to mention anime I once had a web site that I devoted to creating conversions of the things I liked to a particular game system or another.

Well I'm back and its time to get back to posting and talking about the things I like with others.

Video Games: I will be trying to write reviews for games I play and may even work out conversions of games to table top RPG's for gamers to enjoy, or at least I will give a guiding hand rather than doing all the work myself. Unfortunately the only game system I own is an X-Box 360, and my computer which kind of limits what I can do. Unless some kind soul wants to buy me an X-Box One. :)

Table Top RPG's: I play a few different table top games along with my friends. Sometimes I will write about a game system I have read up on or tried out, and may write up a conversion for agame system. Game systems I typically play are - Hero System (Champions, Fantasy Hero); Star Wars (Fantasy Flight Version, Saga Edition); Savage Worlds, D&D (3.5 Edition, 5th Edition); Pathfinder, and possibly others in the future.

But I look forward to providing folks with some entertainment and to get some discussions going on things I may post (but please keep it civil).

Also please feel free to click on any ads that are on my blog here, doing so really helps me out.

Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle

So I wouldn't normally write something on a hand held game, but official Dragon Ball games on hand held devices like the iPhone or Android phones is just something that doesn't exist...well until like a few days ago.

Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle falls into the same sort of vein as One Piece Treasure Cruise, but I have to say that this game is a lot more fun.

While in One Piece you have to tap the screen to ensure that you hit, and do it at the right time, that isn't the case with this game.

Combat is very simple.  Each character is a certain colored attribute, which is vs. another attribute (one they are strong against and one they are weak against.  Touching on one of the "Ki Orbs" of your color generates more ki than when touching one of a different color.  Using a color that is not your characters, but an opponent is weak against I think is a way of evening out damage so that you don't do less damage but something akin to average damage.  There is also some tactics you have to employ besides this.

For example: Getting ki orbs of a character's color will fill up the Dokkan meter, that characters Ki on their portrait, and restore a bit of health.  So you have to look at who your strongest characters are and select ki orbs in a way that will allow them to collect as many of the orbs as they can to power up faster and unleash their most powerful attack.

But then there is the Dokkan meter.  Once this is full you get a "Z" pattern you have to quickly tap your finger across (or slide I'm not sure - I've only gotten to use this once) that allows the character to unleash a spectacular beat down on an opponent finishing the run with their finishing attack.

Another aspect of the tactics is when you come to a boss fight and they have minions with them.  Here its best to take out the minions first before attacking the boss.  You also have to arrange your fighters who will take their turns in a manner that best allows them to attack or defend against opponents.

The combat is fun to watch and looks every bit as fast paced as it should be.  In fact its this ease by which you can fight that makes the game so appealing.

And like One Piece Treasure you get "Character Cards" either by spending in game money (which comes in two forms), or spending your money to buy the in game money (Dragon Shards, I think is what they are called) with which you can then buy your randomly selected characters.

In all this is a surprisingly fun game to play.  And while my first character was 1st Form Frieza, I have been generating enough dragon shards through logging in and playing missions that I eventually lucked out and got Super Saiyan Vegeta (SSR card).

So if you haven't gotten this game yet - check it out.  Its fun and easy to play even if your not a big Dragon Ball fan.

And yes there is a story behind it as well that plays into the "Time Patrol" style story created in many of the newer Dragon Ball Z games.

Conversion Requests

Hey folks, so I've decided that I'll take a request on creating a conversion for a game system.  Now I will only be creating a conversion for a table top RPG game system that I own.

Also I will only be doing one request, it will take a while since I will have to do some research on what it will be.  Also the likeliest winner for this will be one that has some support from other readers.  This will be a one day thing so please comment here on my blog as to what you would like to see.

Time frame wise it will take me a while to write something up, but I'll try to keep any rules simple to understand, but it may take me a week or so to actually write up some rules.  On the other hand if its something I already know a lot about then it should take less time to write up.

As to what game systems I use:

  • Star Wars (Fantasy Flight)
  • Star Wars (d20 Saga Edition)
  • D&D 3.5 Edition
  • D&D 5th Edition
  • Pathfinder
  • Hero System (Note, conversions to hero system are...easy, the game uses point based character creation as you well know, so if you'r looking for any specific alternative rules for something then I can help with that.)
  • Mutants and Masterminds (Again this system is point based and works like hero system, but has some mechanics for balance in place.  Its been a while since I used the system though.)
  • Savage Worlds (A fairly straight forward game system, conversions to this are not easy as its not an overtly friendly game system when it comes to some things.)
So that is it.  If I don't get any responses then I'll repost this again later and see if there are any takers then.  Otherwise just leave a comment below as to what you would like to see me work on; feel free to agree with other people as well.

My Table Top Gaming Comic Strip - The Gaming Group

Ok, so years ago with my old gaming group (my new group is made up of some of the old members) I used a video game sprite making program to create a comic strip around our gaming group and its members.  The idea at the time was to make it an ongoing comic strip I would be making that would play up our various jokes, personalities, and attitudes to comedic levels.

Everyone in the group loved the comic strip and I've debated about putting it online.

Why?

One of our friends in the group - Rod - is Hispanic/Mexican.  Now we joked around with him as he was an instigator about things involving Hispanics too, meaning he was ok with joking about stereotypes, not to mention Rod gave as good as he got when it came to jokes.

But after thinking about it for a long time I decided to go ahead and start posting the short series.

So here are a few parts of the comic...and please remember that everyone in the comic is real and while we may not all game together anymore, we are all still friends.

Oh and Jim...he used to be in the Navy, he worked grave yard and tended to be caught dozing every so often.  His son also occasionally joined us when we gamed.

Now if anyone could direct me to a great, and FREE, bit of software for making game sprites then I might get back into the swing of writing a comic.

Please note that the comic is my own Intellectual Property, 07/20/2015.   And yes I know there are some spelling errors in it...my friends were keen to point them out to me at the time when I made this.

When things go horribly wrong...

Hey folks.  So today isn't a great day for me.  Recently I attempted to get a Go Fund Me campaign going to help out my family and attempt to get at least one of our bills paid off.

Well my wife found out about (which I was trying to avoid happening) and she got really pissed off about it.  And I mean that in a way that I have a bad feeling about when she gets home.  Least to say I'm depressed and not in a good mood today.

You see the plan had been this.

I get this thing started, and if it succeeded in taking off I would have enough money to help pay off our medical bill leaving us financially just a little better off.  I then put a picture of my wife and kids up because this is who its for - its for them, my family.  And that was that.

Well she didn't like it, and I've officially shut down the Go Fund Me campaign - it wasn't working anyway.

But least to say that my good intentions have landed me in some grief with her and its not looking good.

I have a number of things that I do fear.  Loosing my family is one of the big ones - especially since I only intended to do something good here.

So that's about it for whats happening today.  I would have done something for the blog today but all of the creativity in me just got shot down like a politician on the wrong end of Dick Cheney's shotgun.

Still here, just working on stuff...

Ok so I just wanted to let folks know that I haven't forgotten to keep up with my blog.  This Saturday is game day again with my friends and a return to out D&D 5th Edition game.  Now I had to miss out on our last game session which would have seen our characters attempting to get past an army that has a castle under siege so that we can get into said castle - get our stuff that he had stored there (money and a suit of armor that was being refitted for our dwarf cleric) and then get the hell out of dodge.

Not sure how it went without my monk, but hopefully everyone is still alive.

Aside from this I have been working on my home brew game system.  I decided I didn't like the direction I was going with the rules and figured I would change things up, so I've been revising my initial writings and will be posting something here in the near future.

In other news, Reaper has unleashed a new Kickstarter for their Mr. Bones III campaign.  Now I kicked in and helped with the Bones II campaign and if I had any money I would diffidently help with this, but at this time its just not going to happen.  Well not unless I can get some additional work going besides being a janitor, or if folks could start donating to my YouTube channel or on here.

If I could get 140 people to just donate $10 each, I could pay off our medical bill which is looming over our heads.  On that note please tell your friends/family/church goers to visit my pages and to donate, because while I like doing this sort of thing - it doesn't pay the bills on its own.
