What its all about...

As a fan of table top Role Playing Games, and Video Games, not to mention anime I once had a web site that I devoted to creating conversions of the things I liked to a particular game system or another.

Well I'm back and its time to get back to posting and talking about the things I like with others.

Video Games: I will be trying to write reviews for games I play and may even work out conversions of games to table top RPG's for gamers to enjoy, or at least I will give a guiding hand rather than doing all the work myself. Unfortunately the only game system I own is an X-Box 360, and my computer which kind of limits what I can do. Unless some kind soul wants to buy me an X-Box One. :)

Table Top RPG's: I play a few different table top games along with my friends. Sometimes I will write about a game system I have read up on or tried out, and may write up a conversion for agame system. Game systems I typically play are - Hero System (Champions, Fantasy Hero); Star Wars (Fantasy Flight Version, Saga Edition); Savage Worlds, D&D (3.5 Edition, 5th Edition); Pathfinder, and possibly others in the future.

But I look forward to providing folks with some entertainment and to get some discussions going on things I may post (but please keep it civil).

Also please feel free to click on any ads that are on my blog here, doing so really helps me out.

Man I've been busy! Well let's get going on something.

Hey everyone I've been busy playing Metal Gear Solid V and of course working and getting my kid to school (that would be my daughter, she started Kindergarten this year).  But it's not the only thing I've been doing.

Ever since Dragon Ball Resurrection of F, there has been a resurgence of Dragon  Ball on the market, namely with the arrival of Dragon Ball Super.

Now I've been working on a home brew RPG system and I decided, why not incorporate that into something Dragon Ball Related.

To that end I've used the old DBZ RPG books I have as reference in my attempt to build a new Dragon Ball RPG (unofficial of course).

So here is a bit of a glimpse at my through process here:

Character Mechanics
A character is made up of a number of statistical parts.
·         Attributes:  These make up the core of the character affecting many aspects of what the character can do.
·         Statistics:  This is derived information that helps to determine what a character can do, how much punishment they can take and so on.
·         Skills:  These are things that a character knows how to do and covers what one may have learned in school, training they have had and so on.
·         Traits:  A characters traits are based upon not only what species they are, but any personal traits that help to set your character apart from others.
·         Powers:  The powers that a character has are either a part of their species traits, abilities developed from training to wield one’s ki, or they are technology based.

A character and their abilities are built off of a certain number of points that they start off of.  This amount can be adjusted based upon the threats that they may face.  For example a character facing off against a Frieza like opponent would be built with only so many points, but a character facing off against a Cell like opponent would be built on much more than the one who faced Frieza.

========================================================================

I'm also pulling influence from other game systems like Hero System and the new Star Wars (FFG) game system.

So far I have outlined some rules for Attributes and Statistics.  After that I set in on creating some character species to choose from.  To give folks an idea of what I've done here is an example of one of the species.

Android
Not a typical race that is found.  Androids come in one of two varieties, fully mechanical constructs or augmented beings (cyborgs).  The term android is more of a generalization of what they are.  Characters built as mechanical androids have a number of advantages and disadvantages pertaining to their mechanical nature.  Typically mechanical type androids have to be repaired if they sustain enough physical damage, but due to their mechanical nature they are often immensely strong and fast, but cannot use ki typically, instead they have to rely upon built in weapon systems with either limited ammunition, or attacks are powered by the androids own power supply.

Cyborgs function differently of course.  A cyborg is typically an augmented human or other race that has resulted in enough biological changes being made that allows them to gain certain benefits of being mechanical, but also maintain the biological capabilities of the species they were augmented from.  Cyborgs can use ki and unless built for it, they use ki in the same manner as anyone else.

Mechanized Android Positive Traits
·         Improved Strength Level 2:  The Android possesses strength on a superior level than normal beings.  Each level of Improved Strength that a character possesses increases the multiplier for a character’s passive lifting by 10, and adds an additional die to their melee damage.
·         Durable Level 2:  The Android possesses greater than normal resistance to physical damage.  Each level of Toughness multiplier is increased by 1 per level in this trait.
·         Mechanical Mind:  The Android cannot be subjected to psychic attacks or attacks that would dominate their mind.  Attack attempts automatically fail.
·         Mechanized Body:  The Android is a machine and does not tire by normal means.  Androids do not suffer the effects of fatigue, but instead run off a power supply of some sort.  Typically an Android’s power supply will recharge when they shut down for a time (essentially falling asleep) allowing them to recover of their expended energy (Recovery is allowed at one minute intervals while powered down).  This character gains the Power Supply Statistic in the place of their Stamina.  This is equal to their Might score x10 instead.
·         Augmentations:  The Android, having a mechanical body, can have weapons and pieces equipment built into their body.  How this is built in depends on what is desired.  A weapon could be jutting out and cannot be concealed in the body; on the other hand the weapon can be concealed if desired.  However an android can only have so many augmentations done on their body.  The number of augmentations (or powers if you will) is limited to their Might Score x2.
·         Not Alive:  Androids are not living creatures and as such they do not need to breath, eat or drink but typically do need to undergo maintenance of some sort at least on a monthly basis.  They do not need to sleep either so long as they still have power to operate on.

Mechanized Android Negative Traits
·         Vulnerability:  Androids are often vulnerable to electromagnetic attacks due to their various systems.  An electromagnetic attack doesn’t do physical damage but does short out an Androids systems.  Androids hit with an electromagnetic attack are immediately Stunned and must make a Resistance skill roll to avoid being shut down, the roll is vs. the damage taken.  Note that some androids have protected systems that allow them to avoid this problem, as such this negative trait can be bought off.
·         Dull Personality:  Due to the Android being an artificial creation it is unable to understand emotions (typically) and doesn’t feel them.  As such when using Personality skills (except for Intimidation) the character the difficulty of their rolls doubled.  Note that this negative trait can be bought off to show an advanced AI that the Android may have.
·         Cannot Heal:  Androids cannot recover lost Health through their Recovery.  Instead a Technology skill roll is needed in order to repair any damage done to them, working in a similar capacity to a Medical skill roll.  Note that powers can be developed that could circumvent this.
·         Cannot Use Ki:  Androids cannot use Ki since they are not living creatures.  Some Androids may possess the ability to absorb Ki and then use it, but cannot generate it on their own, thus if they use up their supply of Ki they cannot use Ki based powers.
·         Powered Lividity:  Androids need power in order to operate.  They typically use 1 point of power per hour of operation.  If the Android has powers that make use of this power supply as well then it can cut into the Androids maximum operation time.

Note that the Attributes for an Android who is a race other than human will have scores starting differently, as such adjust the score as needed but improve Might by 1 for being a cyborg.

Cyborg Android Positive Traits
·         Improved Strength Level 1:  The Android possesses strength on a superior level than normal beings.  Each level of Improved Strength that a character possesses increases the multiplier for a character’s passive lifting by 10, and adds an additional die to their melee damage.
·         Durable Level 1:  The Android possesses greater than normal resistance to physical damage.  Each level of Toughness multiplier is increased by 1 per level in this trait.
·         Energetic Level 1:  The Android does not tire so easily and has more Stamina than a person normally would.  Each level increases the multiplier for the character’s Stamina by 1.
·         Cybernetics:  The Android possess a number of implants that grant them additional traits.  In the traits section, select up to 2 traits to enhance on what the character can do.  These traits cannot be chosen from a species that the character isn’t.  These traits cost nothing for the character, but the character must be able to meet their requirements.

Cyborg Android Negative Traits
·         Cybernetic Systems:  The Androids systems may or may not be aware of all the systems they have or of the fact that they are a cyborg.  Typically a character’s cybernetic systems cannot be damaged, but powers can be built that can target and disable the cyborgs systems thus shutting down their powers.  This includes the Androids positive traits.
·         Living Being:  The Android is still a living being and thus needs to sleep, eat, and breath.

Starting XP:  160pts

So that's what I've been up to in a nutshell.  I'll keep folks posted on how this progresses.
